Yes! Please contact us at membership@barbicanassociation.co.uk or phone us at +44 (0) 20 7562 7568. If it is applicable to other members, we will likely add it to this list.
The basic payment is £5 per flat per year. It is per flat, not per person.
If you want to pay by cheque, please add an extra £3, to cover processing.
If you would like a to have your correspondence sent elsewhere (membership cards and quarterly copies of Barbican Life magazine and the BA Newsletter), please add £3 for a UK address, £6 for an address in Europe, and £9 for anywhere else in the world.
As an example could be a person that lived in Mali but owned a flat in the Barbican that they rented out and wanted membership cards for themselves, their spouse, their two children, and their mother, and wanted to pay by cheque. They would need to pay £5 for the membership, as it is per flat rather than per person, £3 to process the cheque, and £9 to pay for postage to Mali. Therefore this would cost them £17 per annum.
No. You can just email us the details that you would have used to fill in the form, and mention that you agree to our terms and privacy statement. We will then email back with the payment details you should use.
The privacy statement is on the membership form and the terms are in the constitution.
Generally, no. The standing order section of the membership form is to be given to your bank. We fill in your membership number as the reference, and then we post it, or take it by hand, to the bank.
When this is done, your bank will check if the bank details correct and if the signatures match. They will also check that it has not been tampered with, or fraudulently produced. If it is printed from a low quality scan, has a signature is that is obviously not handwritten, is a photocopy, etc, they will not accept it.
Think about it like this: what level of detail on a standing order mandate would you feel comfortable with your bank accepting when handed it by a complete stranger? Consider that this is to set up a repeating payment on your account.
They do not tell you nor us when they do not accept a standing order mandate. There does not seem to be a way to find out if it has been presented to the bank. It basically just disappears.
Do not do this, please. We can automate the assignment of payments to accounts by using your membership number as a reference. We cannot do this if you use no reference, or if you use a generic reference like “barbi assoc” or “bobs payment” or even something specific like, “twrflt31sol”.
We do receive random payments over the course of the year that are nonattributable, and just get lost in our system, never paying for anything.
Yes, but, because none of these banks can process paper, they cannot accept the paper standing order mandates that we send them. Please follow the advice in, “Do I need to use the membership form?”.
Simply stop paying us. We track membership simply by who pays us each year, and who does not.
If you are uncertain how you are paying us, please contact us at membership@barbicanassociation.co.uk or phone us at +44 (0) 20 7562 7568. We will dig out the records from our side and send them to you.
Refunds on overpayments will always be repaid as soon as we can. Just let us know if you have overpaid, or think that you can overpaid, and we will arrange for a bank transfer to be made to you.
Refunds can be paid if you have previously moved away from the Barbican but paid us by accident.
There are various other reasons you might want a refund, so please get in contact to ask.
All refunds are given at the discretion of the membership secretary, working on behalf of the BAGC. The decision of the BAGC is final.
Yes! You can over pay as much as like, we will credit this to your account and we will then renew every year until the money is exhausted.
Also, if you decide that you would like to no longer do this, but there is still money in your account, will we happily refund you.
