New Membership System

The below is a summary of the update sent out to all members at the end of August 2024. This was a letter and email (where we had it).

Hello there,

We are writing to inform you of some important updates to your Barbican Association membership.

First, we welcome our new Membership Secretary, David Preston, who will be taking over the role previously managed by our dedicated volunteer Jim Davies.

To improve efficiency, we are moving to a new membership system to allow members to join and renew their membership easily online,  The system is called MemberMojo. Many of you may already be familiar with this system as it is used by several House Group RTAs.

The system is a secure website at https://membermojo.co.uk/barbicanassoc

  • The system is run by a third-party organisation, MemberMojo, and meets all Data Protection (GDPR) requirements.
  • The system will replace the current standing order application form and Paypal online application.  MemberMojo allows new and renewing members to pay securely online via debit/credit card.
  • The system will streamline our administration processes for payments as well as being able to encourage more members to join through an easier online application process.
  • You will be able to control and maintain your own data ensuring that we always have the most up to date information.
  • Automated reminder emails will be sent to you to renew your membership.

Key Changes to Note:

Membership Renewal: You will receive an email reminder just ahead of your renewal date to remind you to renew.

Payment Method: All membership fees will now be paid via MemberMojo online by bank card.  MemberMojo does not accept payments through standing order or cheques.  Most payments have previously been via standing order so please ensure you cancel yours and we will send several reminders about this.  If a resident is unable or prefers not to pay by card, they can contact the Membership Secretary to arrange an alternative payment method.

Membership Cards: Moving forward, there will only be one card per membership for simplicity and cost-effectiveness. Each individual requiring a membership card will need to join or renew separately.

Digital Communications: Residents will continue to receive the Barbican Life Magazine and Barbican Association Newsletter through their letterboxes regularly.  For non-resident members, our magazine and newsletters will now be provided exclusively online to improve efficiency and reduce costs. We will send an email with a link to the digital version upon publication.  Non-residents may contact the Membership Secretary or Barbican Life to request a physical copy on a case-by-case basis.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we implement these changes. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me on 078 42 23 52 68 or at membership@barbicanassociation.co.uk.

Note that since this was sent out, the Membership Secretary has since changed so the new contact details for membership are David Preston on 0779 941 7777.

Yours faithfully,

Helen Hudson

    1. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a matter of choice because the person who wrote the old system was retiring and it was a bespoke solution that no-one else could operate – we did try.
So we looked for the most efficient forward looking progressive alternative.
The decision to make the change was approved by the Barbican Association General Council.
We will of course have special provisions for those on the estate who don’t have cards or email.
If you know of anyone like that, please get in touch with me at membership@barbicanassociation.co.uk
      Helen
